This recipe is SO perfect for busy weeknights, because it’s total cinch to put together. Not only is it ready in just 20 minutes, but the actual prep time is SO fast because it uses store bought coleslaw mix. Love it!

You could leave the rice out if you prefer, or you could even add cooked noodles for something totally different. The possibilities are endless!

This savory stir fry is one of my favorite meals for those crazy busy days, but don’t forget about another quick and easy meal: my easy broccoli chicken stir fry! Ready in just 25 minutes, it shares a lot of similar flavor elements with this Inside Out Egg Roll, but features the addition of broccoli instead of coleslaw mix.

FAQ’s

What is inside of an egg roll?

There are so many options for egg roll fillings, and they even come in sweet variations! The typical egg roll that most of us are familiar with is often filled with ground beef or pork, shredded cabbage, and aromatics like onions, ginger, and garlic.

Do you put eggs in egg roll in a bowl?

No. The dish is inspired by the filling of an egg roll, which contains beef and shredded cabbage. Only the exterior ever contained egg, and most modern egg rolls do not actually contain eggs now. If you prefer eggs, you can definitely add a scrambled egg or two!

Does egg roll in a bowl reheat well?

Yes! You can reheat it in the microwave, or by warming in a skillet or Dutch oven until heated through. The leftovers can dry out a bit, so add an additional splash of soy sauce or sesame oil to give it a little boost.

How long does egg roll in a bowl last in the fridge?

If you store your leftovers in an airtight container, your leftovers should last 3-4 days when stored in the fridge. If you would like longer storage, you can add your leftovers to a freezer bag and store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

  • Sesame oil adds an incredible flavor and is truly the secret ingredient to having an AMAZING Inside Out Egg Roll. You can purchase both regular and toasted; I prefer the toasted sesame oil but you can use whatever you have on hand!
  • Using a coleslaw mix is a great time-saving shortcut! If you can’t find one, you can totally shred your own cabbage and carrots to make your own homemade blend.
  • This easy recipe is ready in just 20 minutes! To keep this a quick and simple meal, start your rice just before you start the beef and cabbage portion. That way, your rice is ready at the same time as the rest of the meal!
