Thanksgiving is just another day to me if I don’t have my Corn Bread Dressing. Everyone has their own special recipe for dressing. I Like to keep in nice and simple. This recipe has no meat in it, but you can add if you want. Feel free to adjust this recipe to your taste buds! Want to turn this into a Christmas Dressing? I’d add a can of diced and chopped water chestnuts ( drain the liquid from the can!). Enjoy this dressing with your roast turkey, mashed potatoes, and and collard greens.

This Old Fashion Cornbread Dressing is simple and savory. It's a classic southern side dish that is a must-have at your holiday table!

Ingredients

  • Loaf of overcook corn bread
  • 10 saltine crackers
  • 2 stalks of celery diced
  • 1 medium size yellow onion diced
  • 1 1/2 cup of chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 1 tsp of minced garlic
  • 2 tsp of sage
  • 1 tsp of dried parley
  • 1 tbsp of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp of ground black pepper
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  • Crumble your cornbread into a large mixing bowl.

  • Add your diced celery and onions, followed by your seasonings.

  • Now mix all of the ingredients. Beat eggs in a separate bowl, then pour into the corn bread mixture.

  • Pour in your chicken broth and milk and mix.

  • Butter your desired pan, then pour in your corn bread dressing mixture.

  • Let bake on 350 for 25 minutes.

      Hi Elena! I actually have another recipes for ” stuffing” and I used cream of chicken. I like both, but this one is my favorite. The chicken broth and sage are a perfect match for this dressing.

      The difference between dressing and stuffing has little to do with the ingredients. Stuffing is stuffed inside the cavity of the bird( chicken, turkey). Dressing is served on the side.     Ok so I just made this as a trial thanksgiving meal and I followed the recipe…. or so I thought,after everything was mixed up,it looked and smelled like dressing so I proudly put it in the oven,took it out ever so happily.This is when I saw the ten crackers I had set aside!!.I couldn’t believe I for to add the crackers!lol-See this is why I do trial meals because my mind is bound to forget something trying to remember EVERYTHING .Its so weird though because even without the crackers,it was so good but I recommend following this recipe to the T!,crackers&all.Thanks again Rosie for the lovely recipes,with steps!:)

    Thank you so much I tried your cornbread dressing because it was the closest to how my mother used to make hers the only thing I remember was that she would chopped green bell pepper in her dressing.
