DIY How to Make a Wood Bead Wreath (Half Split Ball) (2024)

• 2 inch Split Wood Balls
• MDF Wreath Ring 16 inch (Mine's from Hobby Lobby)
• Hot Glue Gun (I love my Cricut glue gun!)
• Eucalyptus Stems
• Baby Breath Sprig
• Silk Flower(color of your choice)
• Wire Cutters
• Bow (optional)

You can use a simple wood bead wreath, where the wire wreath form is filled with round wood beads already.

Wooden bead wreath forms like this are available at the craft store and smaller ones even at Dollar Tree...the kind that have beads on wire and the ends of the wire are looped together.

However, this DIY wood bead wreath uses split wood beads instead of full wooden beads 2 inches big.

Big 2 inch beads would be an extra cost and so much more bulk. (check them out here)

There are different sizes of split ball domes but I love these 2 inch ones.

Step 1: Hot Glue Beads

The first thing for making this wood bead wreath is to plug in the hot glue gun.

I love my Cricut hot glue gun, it heats up so fast and melts the glue sooooo smoothly.

I was skeptical because of the additional cost, but got it on a great Summer deal and I am so happy about it!

Apply a small line of hot glue on the wreath form and place the wood dome on the glue, taking special attention to lining up the wood grain of the balls so they point into the wreath.

This lining up is not necessary, but most people's OCD would agree that it is necessary.

Step 2: Greenery

Use the hot glue gun to glue the stems down on the center of the wood wreath form.

A simple way to avoid any possible hot glue guns is to press the stem down onto the wreath with the side of a pair of scissors...not your finger.

Let the hot glue cool completely between gluing pieces of greenery so they hold in place firmly.

The important part is filling the whole thing with greenery or bigger florals to make the bottom half of the wreath the fun part!

Step 3: Florals

Finally, the final touch, hot glue smaller flowers or just one silk flower to the center of the greenery stems.

If you want to add multiple smaller flowers, stick to an odd number...like 3 or 5 flowers, an easy way for the perfect wreath balance.

Then get as creative as you want with wreath ideas!

Add elements to your home decor for any time of year.

You can wrap floral wire around the wreath an attach faux lemons, strawberries and other fruit for a Summery vibe.

Add a mini chalkboard and write a cheery message in white chalk paint!

You can add different colors of leaves for a Fall wood bead wreath.

You can even wrap on some Christmas decorations for the perfect DIY holiday wreath.

Or fill the empty space with some dried wildflowers and tie it with a big burlap bow.

Redecorate the split ball wreath for every new season--the beaded vibe is here for a while!

When I was growing up I did not like wreaths.

I did not like big gigantic bows on little baby's heads either. (now, I totally do!)
